Qatar Airways Boeing 777 Suffers Bird Strike in Tunis

    Published on:

    When did it happen?

The aircraft was performing a routine flight from Doha to Tunis with the flight number of QR3273 when while landing it was seen that’s bird hitting the plane. This incident occurred on 21st April.

    The aftermath of the situation

The aircraft had successfully landed and then informed the Tunis airport tower that it had hit a bird while touching down on the runway. According to news, the seagull’s corpse was found on the track and was later carried away as to not cause any disturbance. Because of this incident, the aircraft was forced to wait back at Tunis airport for 28 hours for inspection of the plane before transporting 243 passengers back to Doha. This also may have occurred as Tunis is a coastal city, so there would be an abundance of seagulls.

Could there have been prevention to this happening

The most used way is by using propane-fueled air cannons to scare away the birds. An alternative to this is to make the landscape or area near the airport less habitable for birds, an example of this is to fill up ponds with rocks or gravel. In Salt Lake City International Airport, there have been pigs to eat the birds. In Southwest Florida International Airport, there have been dogs to chase away birds. But the most cost-efficient way is to make the area around the airport inhabitable.

    Conclusion

Overall there will always be birds in the sky, and that’s something that we will never be able to do something about. The birds will always act as the disadvantage of flying and is something pilots should know about.
